BBQ Cauliflower Poppers

As you may know, cauliflower has been the talk of the town for the last couple of years. As you may know, cauliflower has been the talk of the town for the last couple of years. Between cauliflower pizza, cauliflower rice, cauliflower pasta (yes, this exists), there’s truly nothing cauliflower can’t be.

Not to be bias, but cauliflower poppers may be my favorite of the trends. Do they taste like actual chicken poppers? No.

But are they hella good and kind of addicting? Yes.

The homemade BBQ sauce really makes this recipe. But guess what? If you’d rather use the store bought kind because its easier, there’s nothing wrong with that. You do you, thats the motto around here.

And if you’re not a fan of BBQ sauce, you can pair these with pretty much any sauce you like! One of them being my Sweet and Spicy Asian Style Cauliflower Poppers, aka my OG poppers.

The best way to serve this is fresh off the pan, but if you wanted to prep them ahead of time, I would leave the sauce on the side until ready to eat! Feel free to serve it as a dip, too, to keep the poppers crunchy.

Can’t wait for you to get poppin’!

Ingredients

  • 1 head head of cauliflower
  • 2 eggs, whisked
  • 2 cups whole wheat panko crumbs (use GF breadcrumbs if needed), seasoned with salt & pepper
  • Cooking spray

BBQ Sauce

  • 3/4 cup ketchup
  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 2 1/2 tbsp honey
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 tbsp smoked paprika
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • Pinch of hot sauce

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 F.
  2. Cut the cauliflower into florets. Dip each floret into the whisked egg and then into the breadcrumbs.
  3. Line them up on a parchment lined baking dish and spray each one with cooking spray. Bake for 35-40 minutes.
  4. In a medium sized saucepan, add in BBQ sauce ingredients and bring to a boil.
  5. Reduce heat and let it simmer for about 8-10 minutes until thick, stirring occasionally.
  6. Once cauliflower is ready, pour into the saucepan and toss together until fully mixed.
  7. If you prefer a crunchier popper, you can serve the sauce on the side as a dip!

Notes

  1. Any breadcrumb or coating will work in place of Panko.
  2. To save time, feel free to pair these with your favorite store bought sauce of choice!
