Rosh Hashanah Recipes- 2023

Rosh Hashanah, aka the Jewish New Year, is only a few days away. I rounded up some of my favorite sides and desserts to bring to your holiday table, whether you’re celebrating with a small crowd or large.

These recipes are perfect for your holiday meal, or any day of the week!

These recipes may not all be traditional holiday recipes, but they’re simple to make, and a perfect way to add some nutritious flavor to your holiday. From roasted veggies, to wild rice salads to tahini brownies, there’s something sweet for everyone at the table.

Sides and Mains

Roasted veggies and fun salads are my favorite way to level up a meal. These sweet & savory side dishes are the perfect addition to your holiday table.

  • Date Syrup & Walnut Roasted Brussels Sprouts– crispy brussels sprouts with caramelized date syrup, cinnamon and crunchy walnuts
  • Harissa Date Roasted Cauliflower– spiced roasted cauliflower topped with a simple harissa date syrup chopped dates, dill, and parsley
  • Wild Rice Salad with Green Goddess Tahini– a colorful salad with wild rice, pomegranate seeds, sweet potatoes and a creamy green tahini dressing.
  • Harissa Roasted Carrots– rainbow carrots tossed in a homemade harissa marinade and baked until crisp
  • Chickpea Couscous Salad with Cumin Vinaigrette– light yet flavorful pearl couscous salad filled with mint, parsley and pomegranate seeds
  • Honey Mustard Smashed Potatoes– boiled, smashed and roasted potatoes served with a creamy honey mustard dipping sauce
  • Farro Salad with Apricot Vinaigrette– farro salad with shaved parmesan (optional), roasted pistachios and green apples tossed in a sweet apricot vinaigrette
  • Lentil Salad with Lemon Vinaigrette– lentils, colorful veggies, avocado, walnuts & a simple lemon vinaigrette come together for a hearty salad
  • Upside Down Puff Pastry with Balsamic Beets– upside down puff pastry with balsamic beets, arugula and feta cheese
  • Balsamic Date Kale Salad with Fried Halloumi– kale salad mixed with creamy balsamic date vinaigrete, fried halloumi and sliced almonds
  • Walnut & Pistachio Salmon with Citrus Date Glaze– walnut and pistachio crusted salmon with a date syrup and orange zest glaze
  • Slow Roasted Salmon with Fennel Slaw– slow-roasted sumac salmon topped with a fresh fennel slaw
  • Moroccan Fish– fish fillets poached in a spicy paprika based sauce- a friday night staple at our house!

Desserts

Most of these desserts are gluten-free and dairy-free, and are sure to be a hit with the whole family. 

  • Gluten-free Apple Crisp– a classic fall dessert made with a sweet apple base and an oat flour crumb topping
  • Upside Down Apple Cake– gluten-free apple cake topped with sweet, caramelized apples
  • Vegan Peach Crumble– this simple dessert is made with fresh peaches and an oat flour topping, and tastes delicious with some vanilla ice cream
  • Gluten-free Tahini Brownies– flourless tahini brownies that are rich and decadent
  • Brown Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies– crisp and chewy gluten-free chocolate chip cookies with a delicious nutty flavor and pools of melted dark chocolate
  • Apple Crumb Cake– this cake is moist, sweet, and filled with chunks of fresh apples.
  • Gluten-free Apple Walnut Loaf– soft and fluffy apple cake filled with crunchy walnuts and grated apples
  • Chocolate Chunk Tahini Date Cookies– these chocolate chunk tahini date cookies combine the nuttiness of tahini with the sweetness of medjool dates

tofu & veggies in a Moroccan inspired sauce 🌶️

I shared my Moroccan fish recipe a couple of years ago and was inspired to make a plant-based version using tofu

the baked tofu gets cooked in a spicy paprika based sauce with veggies, chickpeas and tons of cilantro. I served it over rice with some challah for dipping 🤤
