Buffalo Cauliflower Wings

Cauliflower wings have been a favorite of mine for so long! I’ve been making my sweet & spicy cauliflower and BBQ cauliflower bites forever, but thought it was time to make some classic buffalo cauliflower wings.

These spicy bites are vegan and gluten-free friendly, and a delicious side to whip up for weeknight dinners or a game-day spread.

These vegan bites are the perfect appetizer or snack for both meat eaters and non meat eaters.

While they don’t taste like actual wings, they are a fun way to eat more veggies. They’re so delicious as a snack, appetizer or side dish. I love pairing them with my favorite ranch or greek yogurt sauce.

Since my other cauliflower wing recipes required individually dipping the florets in egg and breadcrumbs, I wanted to create a recipe that was not only vegan, but easy to throw together.

Chop your cauliflower, toss them all in the batter in one big bowl, bake them and mix in your sauce!

How to make buffalo cauliflower wings:

The key ingredient in these is the Frank’s Red Hot Sauce, but feel free to sub your favorite hot sauce brand.

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • 1 large cauliflower, cut into florets
  • Flour, use a GF 1:1 flour blend or all-purpose flour
  • Milk of choice. It can be dairy or plant-based milk
  • Spices: paprika, smoked paprika, garlic powder and salt
  • Butter- dairy or non-dairy
  • Hot sauce
  1. Cut your head of cauliflower into florets
  2. Mix your flour, spices and non-dairy milk in a bowl and whisk together to create a batter
  3. Toss your florets into the batter to evenly coat, then place onto a parchment lined tray
  4. Drizzle with olive oil and bake for 30 minutes
  5. Brush with some of the buffalo sauce then finish baking for 15 minutes
  6. Pour the remaining sauce over the top with some fresh chopped parsley or chives

These buffalo cauliflower bites are simple, so delicious, and a family favorite! They have the perfect amount of heat, but can be modified if you like things extra spicy.

I love to serve these with a side salad like my Butter Lettuce Salad with Dill Dressing and Hot Honey Salmon Bites.

Ingredients

  • 1 large head of cauliflower
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour, or a 1:1 GF flour blend
  • 1 cup non-dairy or dairy milk
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp smoked paprika
  • Drizzle of olive oil
  • Chopped parsley, to top

Buffalo Sauce

  • 2 tbsp butter, dairy or non-dairy
  • 1/4 cup Frank's Redhot or your favorite hot sauce
  • Pinch of cayenne pepper, optional

Directions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375 F.
  2. Trim and cut your cauliflower into florets. Set aside.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, mix together the flour and spices. Pour in the milk and whisk together well until a thick batter forms.
  4. Toss your florets into the batter and mix together until each is evenly coated.
  5. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and layer the battered cauliflower onto the tray, making sure not to overcrowd the pan.
  6. Drizzle the cauliflower with olive oil and bake for 30 minutes, then remove from oven
  7. Melt the butter with the hot sauce in the microwave for 30 seconds then mix until smooth. Brush the florets with some of the sauce, then place the cauliflower back into the oven for an additional 15 minutes
  8. Once done, drizzle with the remaining sauce and garnish with chopped parsley

This turned out great! My hubby loves buffalo wings so I snuck these in at dinner last night. He gives it a thumbs up and looks forward to having them again. A veggie, who knew?!
